The IUFRO World Congress, held at 5-year intervals, is one of the largest global forest events. It brings together scientists and stakeholders from all parts of the world to discuss scientific and technical issues related to priority areas of forest research, policy and management.

Tuesday, 25 June

14:30-15:30, Forest Policy and Justifying Role of Science in Tropical Countries. A High-Level Policy Panel Dialogue: This dialogue intends to encourage stakeholders to think beyond their comfort zone to enhance social equity and inclusive sustainability in science. 

17:20-17:25, Forest restoration under climate change in Asia: innovative tools, model, and approaches: This technical session brings key researchers together to discuss and synthesize current approaches and tools to identify changes in tree species and ecosystem in Southeast Asia, model the impact of anticipated climate changes on forests, and approach site-specific restoration that ensure local communities' life and livelihood under climate change.

Thursday, 27 June

14:30-15:30, Transforming and restoring forests for more resilient landscapes and societies: This session will address the need of new science relating to the state, options and limitations of Forest Landscape Transformation and Restoration. It will also feature examples of WWF's high-quality FLR initiatives in Africa, Latin America and Greater Mekong.

Friday, 28 June, Keynote speech by Fran Price

10:00-12:30, Bending the Curve on Forest and Biodiversity Loss. Fran Price will spotlight the current state of forests and biodiversity, key levers that can enable systemic shifts, the role of science and the pathways needed for collective action, including the urgent need to harness the power of science in new ways to achieve a nature-positive world.

12:30-12:45: Launch of new report, the Human Dimension of Forest Landscape Restoration

13:00-14:00, Side event: The value of long-term collaboration: 22 years of learning with WWF and IKEA: This side event will focus on innovations embraced in the WWF-IKEA partnership, the approaches adopted to adapt and respond to complex local ecological, social, and institutional contexts, and the strategies embraced to scale impact while balancing trade-offs. The side event will feature collaborative interventions in China, Vietnam, and Eastern Europe.

14:30-15:30, Restoring forests and trees: Balancing goals, interests and trade-offs: This panel discussion will stimulate critical discussion on forest and forest landscape restoration by discussing the evidence and experiences on crucial questions. The session is closely linked to IUFRO-WFSE project’s latest book “Restoring forests and trees for sustainable development - Policies, practices, impacts and ways forward”.
